FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FineArt prints use water-based pigmented inks and top-quality natural fiber and alphacellulose papers, certified for durability and color rendering, guaranteeing a superior museum quality compared to traditional chemical photographic printing (C-Print or Lambda).

This means we adhere to a rigorous protocol for producing certified fine art prints, using Epson printers, UltraChrome HDX inks with 11 primary colors including orange, green, and purple, combined with approved Hahnemühle cotton papers. Works can be numbered, signed, and accompanied by a certificate of guarantee of museum-quality, long-lasting prints.

Hahnemühle papers are renowned for their museum-quality, made from cotton or alpha-cellulose. These acid- and optical brightener-free papers are ideal for long-term preservation and offer exceptional color rendition. We also use papers from other paper mills, such as Canson, Ilford, Mohab, Awagami, Innova, Fabriano, and Crane, upon request.

We accept Tiff, JPEG, and PDF files and recommend using a final resolution of at least 300/360 dpi. This applies to formats up to 40x60. Large formats don't require such a high resolution; for formats 50x70 and above, a minimum of 200 dpi is recommended. Files are accepted in both 8-bit and 16-bit formats and must have a standard embedded color profile: if in RGB (recommended), it's best to use the AdobeRGB98 or ProPhotoRGB profile, or the sRGB color profile. If the file is sent in CMYK, it's best to embed a standard ISO profile like PSO Fogra and send a standard PDF/X.

Yes, we can produce small-format proofs to check color rendering, contrast, and detail before proceeding with the final print. We can also provide full-size (1:1) strips of the print to determine if the resolution is sufficient. Contact us to request this service.

When stored properly, prints made with Epson Digigraphie®-certified water-based HDX inks on FineArt papers such as Hahnemühle can last well over 100 years before beginning to fade. According to the Wilhelm Research Institute (http://wilhelm-research.com/), the combination of our printers and the papers we select will begin to degrade after 137 years if protected with UV glass and after over 200 years if stored in an album.

Absolutely. Thanks to the Fineart Digigraphie® protocol and Hahnemuhle parchment certificates, we can provide limited editions, signed and accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity.

Yes, we also offer reproduction services for artwork and analog negatives/positives through professional, high-resolution scanning. We use a calibrated photographic reproduction technique for even large-format works, and for negative scans, we use an Imacon Flextight 848 scanner to transform analog artworks into Fine Art prints. The scanner is also available for rent at our office.

Absolutely. We offer a wide range of Hahnemühle papers: matte, glossy, and semi-gloss with various textures, from smooth to textured. We offer three coating lines: semi-gloss or baryta, glossy, or fully matte, like the 308gsm Photo Rag.

Yes, we offer a rigid panel mounting service directly. The print is applied to the rigid material (DiBond, Forex, or Sandwich) using a calender and acid-free double-sided tape. Upon request, we can also arrange framing for your work, thanks to our decades-long collaboration with an expert framer, offering a product ready for display. We can produce frames in natural wood or with colored varnishes, but always water-based and solvent-free to preserve the quality and longevity of your Fine Art prints.

Yes, we're always happy when a client comes to our studio to see our technologies and papers, and to get a sample. If distance makes this impossible, we always have a small-format sample of our papers ready, which can be ordered online, so you can get a feel for the texture and feel the surface.

Our prints are resistant to light but not humidity, as they are made with water-based pigments that, while penetrating deeply into the fibers, remain water-soluble, making them insensitive to water and highly susceptible to humid environments. Lightfastness is excellent, and the print can last for decades, displayed in a suitable environment or simply indoors. Unfortunately, contact with humidity is not as well tolerated as with prints made with solvent-based inks or screen printing, which release pollutants into the air (VOCs – Volatile Organic Compounds) and are therefore not suitable for indoor display.

Many artists sign their prints with archival pencils or pigment pens. Alternatively, we can provide a Hahnemuhle certificate with signature, consecutive numbering, and a numbered and certified holographic sticker, as well as a Digigraphie blind stamp directly on the edge of the print (outside the photograph).

Yes, we can work on files not optimized for Fine Art printing upon request, offering post-production services aimed at correcting color balance and enhancing sharpness for printing. We can also support photographers and artists from file preparation to proofing and final printing. We also offer professional photo retouching services for publishing and photo book printing in CMYK using traditional offset printing, providing color proofs compliant with Fogra standards.

Both options are available. You can decide whether to leave a white border for the signature or mat, or print full-frame all the way to the edge. It's a matter of personal preference; if you'd like a white border, we ask that you prepare it yourself in Photoshop or specifically request it when ordering by adding a note to the pre-press operator.

The concept of 'museum quality' is a generic term—like 'fine art'—that refers to the use of printing technologies that allow for maximum color permanence over time. This means using paper that meets the ISO 9706 standard and water-based pigments on high-resolution printers like our Epson SC (Sure Color) printers.

Yes, we can print large formats up to 150 cm on the short side, so for example, we can print a 150 x 300 cm sheet or even larger in a single piece. The dimensions also depend on the type of paper you want, as not all papers are available in 150 cm widths. Send us a request for a quote.

There's no minimum print run: we also produce single copies. Fine Art printing is designed to ensure the highest quality, even for unique works. Not only that, but we can replicate the first copy exactly over time, so you're free to order a unique copy, and if you like it or need a larger print run, you can reorder it with the guarantee that it will be identical to the first! This is called color consistency over time, and it's one of our main quality goals!
